WTF CNN

I used to go to CNN.com multiple times a day. I started to wane from my routine last summer when Michael Jackson died and every CNN.com headline for a month was about him. At risk of being added to an FBI watch list, I decided to check out Al Jazeera. Not only was I more impressed by the quality of the news they highlight, but I realized how many things CNN tends to overlook. If you’d like to compare, go to www.WTFcnn.com.
Or maybe wait until a celebrity dies first.

Vice Magazine

I’ve been a fan of Vice magazine since the first time I opened its’ anarchistic, apocalyptic, taste making pages many years ago. Here’s an interesting article the New York Times published yesterday-
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/15/business/media/15carr.html?scp=5&sq=vice&st=Search
I hope Vice never gets to that point, where they’re so ubiquitous in the hipster world that their cherished “street cred” starts to crack under the weight of fame… it seems like they’re dangerously close to that point already. But if they play it right they could keep growing AND keep their level of respect, a la ‘Adbusters’. I …

http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/asiapcf/10/16/australia.baby.train.escape/index.html
I am fully aware it is TOO soon to talk about this. But it needs to be said. This Miracle baby in Australia, has survived what is seemingly a really unlucky occurrence that has turned lucky.
People may be thinking the below:
“Hooray the baby is alive.
Shame on the careless idiot of a mom.
And wait…
HEYYYYYY now.
The baby wasn’t lucky!
It was…
the…
stroller!
THE STROLLER SAVED THE BABY’S life!!!!”
I am sure some people, Americans, are watching this video thinking “Oh golly gosh – where do I get one of those strollers from.” Maybe skipping the whole …

FINALLY, ROGER GETS SOME REVENGE

Back in the early 80’s there was this group called Zapp. They were fronted by Roger Troutman. Allow Wikipedia to explain in further detail:
Roger Troutman (November 29, 1951 – April 25, 1999) was the lead singer of the band Zapp who helped to pave the way for West Coast hip hop after the scene’s rappers heavily sampled his music over the years. Troutman was well known for his use of the talkbox, a device that is connected to an instrument (frequently a keyboard) to create different vocal effects. Roger used …

Designed to Fail

Confession: I love reading the newspaper.
I don’t do it every day or even that often anymore, for all the reasons we’ve all read about over and over again (read: the internet, the internet and the internet). But time spent with a good newspaper never feels like time wasted. The best newspapers in the country still deliver great journalism, context and opinions. Yet as we all know, the newspaper is dying.
But has the newspaper done anything to forestall its demise? Oh, there’s talk of charging for content and adding “hyper-local” …
