Vuvuzela World Cup

Everybody has been hearing about how annoying the vuvuzela noise is when you are watching any of the World Cup games. Even if you are not watching, I’m sure you have seen people talking about it on Twitter, Facebook or on the street. People tried to ban it from the WC but weren’t very luck, that giant bee hive noise will keep on annoying everybody. Sites like spitorswallow.co.za/blowme.php and iPhone apps promise to get your co-workers and anybody you know, out of their minds. Talking about that, guys just created …

The World Cup is Coming!

The World Cup is coming and you’ve probably started seeing some commercials for it. ESPN is all over the U2 bandwagon and their spots seem more like political statements than ads for a soccer tournament. Nike just dropped their much anticipated new spot yesterday with a huge Facebook push making folks “like” Nike Football to be able to see it. As of today, Nike Football has over 605,000 likes. Nike’s is the best so far in my opinion but you be the judge. Here’s the Nike and some other brands …

Kraft Cheddar Explosion

This past Sunday, at 7 a.m. Texas Stadium was imploded. THE Texas Stadium. Former home of the Dallas Cowboys. All sponsored by Kraft Mac ‘N Cheese. That’s right. Kraft held an essay contest for kids, with the winner getting to push the button to start the demolition. While the explosion didn’t look like cheddar, it was pretty cool. People lined up outside to catch a glimpse of it.
While the whole idea of Kraft sponsoring the implosion of Texas Stadium is a ridiculous but ultimately fun idea, I think they missed …

Tiger Wood-s

Sorry for the bad pun in the subject. Bare with me, I’m a copywriter. But, what do you think of this new Nike Ad featuring Tiger Woods and what his late father would have told him (?). Uhm. First of all, who knows what he really would have said. I think it’s in poor taste. Maybe too soon? First time I disagree with a Nike Ad. It hurts.

Heineken Italy Activision

I came across this Heineken guerrilla marketing event idea on a blog yesterday and found it really worth sharing…
It happened  on the eve of one of the biggest soccer matches you can imagine, Real Madrid vs AC Milan.
If you are American, just think about this happening to you during superbowl or if it’s not football, think one of the biggest events on a sport you love…
Watch it here:

Budweiser World Cup Reality Show

During the World Cup, Budweiser wants to take one person from each of the participating countries to go live in the same house. It’ll be called The Bud House, the brands reality show that is supposed to show 32 people cheering for their countries inside a high-tech house in South Africa…
A few weeks ago, AdAge said that this would be like a Big Brother but the producers came back and said that it’s not supposed to be a elimination game. They want to show how would it be to put …

Woods Therapy

(Patrick, I thought I would do a little follow-up on your Tiger story)
From a stool at the bar I watched (not listened) to Tiger’s apology on Friday. What struck me as slightly odd was that this apology was addressed to pretty much the entire world, but, shouldn’t he maybe be making a few apologetic gestures to the mother of his children? The woman he publicly humiliated? Whose heart he broke, etc etc? Well, anyways that’s totally not my business. What IS my business is guessing how his therapy’s going…
Therapist: So, …

Creative Athletes

This past year I have been experimenting with sports to break some blocked creative walls. This was somewhat challenging because I grew up in artistic environment and the most athletic thing was drawing a hopscotch board with sidewalk chalk for the JV hopscotch team. I never really thought of creative people to be athletic — ever. And in most art institutions there are no sports. Maybe interpretive dance — and let’s be honest, that doesn’t count. Unless you count the scissor-kicks in leotards.
I recently discovered the one thing that fills …

Super Bowl Commercial Surprise

For the last 2 weeks, I’ve seen blogs, tweets and links to all the Super Bowl spots that will be airing. I don’t know about you, but the Super Bowl is like Christmas morning for me. I can’t wait to be surprised and laugh and enjoy all the commercials. Previewing them all before the game seems like it’s ruining all the magic. Like waking up Christmas morning and finding out that your parents took toys out of your toybox, wrapped them up and put them under the tree. I’m hoping …

SUPER BULLSHIT – Getting sacked by conservatives yet again

In order for me to sidestep the back-story & avoid typing an extra 1,000 words, please have a look at the following news articles regarding two different Super Bowl TV spots intended to run this Sunday- one was accepted, one rejected:
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/02/business/media/02adco.html?ref=business

WTF?!?!?!?!? I don’t know whether to be pissed off at or feel sorry for the frightened little men running CBS. Are we still living in America, “land of the free”? Hang on a sec, let’s take a closer look at the scenario…. Super macho, slightly homoerotic sport- check. Pro-life Christians …
