Scorched Earth

The one thing that I’ve become certain of since arriving in Moscow is this: nothing of any weight (psychic or otherwise) that happens here will do so without an equally baffling 180-degree reaction. It’s as if the best & the worst of nature and humanity are in some bizarre eternal battle with each other inside the city. So it’s actually NOT ironic at all that I would have written last week’s post about the ‘beauty of humanity’ at the Afisha picnic, and now, exactly 1 week later, the entire city …

F**K You BP!

It’s been a month since the oil leak started on the Gulf and they didn’t figure out a way to stop that thing yet. Even seeing all the disaster online and on TV, it might not give you the exact idea of how bad that shit is.
Thinking about that this programmer created the www.ifitwasmyhome.com that (using Google Maps)
allows you to project the disaster on whatever part of the planet you are.
You can see in the picture how would it be if it was in Chicago…Shit is crazy…As Aziz Amsari said …

BP Cares

Back in the early days (like what 50 days ago) of the massive oil leak BP wasn’t saying much. Like pretty much nothing. So of course a brilliant person out there started this twitter feed @BPGlobalPR His thought was, if they aren’t going to say anything I will.
It’s sarcastic, it’s truthful and it is absolutely the only funny thing to come out of the disaster in the gulf. Take a read and buy a free T-shirt for $25. I really think this jab at BP spurred BP to actually address …

Will the real Nazis please stand up?

Ahhhh, Arizona. A great place to live if you’re old, white, and yearn for a simpler time in history when you could always get a seat at the front of the bus. The recent Immigration law signed into effect by Governor Jan Brewer cements Arizona’s place as the most frightened, backwards state in America. Remember how in 1983 ALL THREE Arizona House Republicans voted against a federal holiday for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (John McCain was in that group). At least it prompted an incredible song & video by …

Thanks, Christians!

Usually when I contemplate organized religion I think about the countless number of wars fought & innocent people killed in the name of God. I think about how comforting and convenient it must be to have a book to turn to for all of the answers to life’s most troubling & obtuse questions, rather than come to the horrifying conclusion that we’re all just staring into a void. I think about the guilt and shame, the distrust and repression of our animal instincts that it instills in impressionable minds. But …

SUPER BULLSHIT – Getting sacked by conservatives yet again

In order for me to sidestep the back-story & avoid typing an extra 1,000 words, please have a look at the following news articles regarding two different Super Bowl TV spots intended to run this Sunday- one was accepted, one rejected:
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/02/business/media/02adco.html?ref=business

WTF?!?!?!?!? I don’t know whether to be pissed off at or feel sorry for the frightened little men running CBS. Are we still living in America, “land of the free”? Hang on a sec, let’s take a closer look at the scenario…. Super macho, slightly homoerotic sport- check. Pro-life Christians …

Have an Obama Tonic!

It’s Friday.  It’s rainy.  And I just found out I’m going to be working over the weekend…. Only one thing can make me feel better: Seeing Obama humiliate some ass-backwards bitches at the GOP Retreat. It is a little on the lengthy side, but if you can carve an hour and half out of your day, I promise this will lift your spirits like a heavily poured double vodka-tonic in debate form. Another awesome tidbit? FOX News stopped running it 20 minutes before it ended because someone (what I have …

By any means necessary

I think one thing that’s missing in many people’s psyches, and perhaps the cause of so much strife in the world, is the ability to really get inside another person’s mind, to feel existence in their shoes. Today is MLK day, and it’s a good time to think about how my life could have been so much different. Any one of us could have ended up with different colored skin, born in a different country, different sex, etc. It’s just through God (if you believe in that construct), or nature, …

Polaroids are back

I’m in love with Polaroids, not in a hipster kinda way. But I’m pretty fascinated by those smelly chemicals that reveal what’s usually a terrible picture in under 2 minutes. So, I was very disappointed when I heard that they were discontinued. And then I heard this. And it’s probably already old news, but Lady Gaga was named “Creative Director” at Polaroid. I think they made the perfect choice. She’ll definitely bring attention to the brand. I mean what could possibly make Lady Gaga sound boring, well the suits at …
