Hearts and Mind

So I finally got my gas-masked mug into AgencySpy last week! Not exactly the ideal circumstances to be mentioned on AgencySpy, but at least it’s not because of being fired from some high-profile post, or being anonymously called-out by co-workers for being an insufferable douchebag…
This weekend was beautiful. The air was breathable, the temperatures comfortable, and Muscovites seemed to be flocking out into the streets again. On Friday night I saw a solo performance by Alexander Hacke (of Einsteurzende Neubauten) at a very cool little bar/café called Ikra- It was …

Good typography you know how I feel.

I bumped into this great type treatment to Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good”, created for the MFA Design program at School of Visual Arts. Great song plus great type equals an enlightened mind. Enjoy.

Deluxx Fluxx Arcade

I was in NY last week for work and we happened to check out this really cool gallery with work by some Brooklyn-based artists Faile. They are primarily street artists but took over a space and transformed it into an interactive exhibit full of old school arcade games and foosball all covered floor to ceiling with their art. Each arcade game had their work that you could interact with in some way. I’d never seen anything like it before.

Their work seems to be really collage-esque with monoprints and …

Physical Attack on Offensive Art

Since I can’t physically attack any offensive art that I see on TV (without destroying my TV… not that that would be such a bad thing) or high up in the air on billboards (I suppose I could buy a paint gun & do some target shooting…) instead I’ll quote one of my main inspirations, the man himself- Hakim Bey AKA Peter Lamborn Wilson….
ART SABOTAGE STRIVES TO be perfectly exemplary but at the same time retain an element of opacity–not propaganda but aesthetic shock–appallingly direct yet also subtly angled– action-as-metaphor.
Art …

“Acrylic on Flesh” artist

I came across this artist Alexa Meade and loved the way she flipped traditional portraits on their heads. Instead of creating realistic portraits on canvas, she creates paintings on real objects and people.
Here’s her point of view on her work. ”I paint representational portraits directly on top of the people I am representing. The models are transformed into embodiments of the artist’s interpretation of their essence. When captured on film, the living, breathing people underneath the paint disappear, overshadowed by the masks of themselves.”
Take a look at her work and notice how she …

The Creative Process

Again and again and again people talk about “The Creative Process”, but I’ve never seen it discussed like this. This quirky video at the L Studio starring humorists Starlee Kine and Arthur Jones will at least make you smile. But then again, I’m just percolating here hehe.
The L Studio is Lexus’ way of promoting the arts. I think this is their social awareness side? Wild guess here.

Marc Johns – Serious Drawings

I have been logging in to this guys website everyday for a while now, and it always makes me laugh for the randomness of his drawings and the stuff he writes.
You might have seen his stuff around because he is getting a lot of attention on blogs and stuff, but if not, here’s a blog that will make 5 minutes of your day better!!

Ghostwriter Cubana

The most interesting conversation I was involved in this week was about a writer known as Yoani Sanchez. Recently I learned about Yoani Sanchez and the blog Generation Y from listening in on a lecture given by Jauretsi Saizarbitoria, a Cuban American Filmmaker / DJ who had completed a documentary about Cuba called East of Havana. For those of you who were not aware of Yoani Sanchez  I highly recommend hearing her story. It is quite fascinating the extent she had to go through to get her blog posts out …

Staring at Optimism

I have been having a borderline creepy staring contest with my unlimited ride metro card. Why the borderline creepy staring contest? Because the word “optimism” is printed on the back side of the card.
Why was the MTA printing the word optimism on the back of metro cards? MTA rides are far from being pleasant. Hell they are sweaty, crowded, dirty, and most times you get an arm stuck in the door. And the prices of a metro card went up and made people like me feel unpleasant. In short, the …

Out of home flys

One of the nastiest creatures in the world just got a new job!  The German book edtior Eichborn has a fly as a symbol so they decided to use  some live ones to spread the word.
I don’t like them landing on me, but I guess if they had something to tell me like that I would make an exception. I’m sure frogs wont like that….
