An Excerpt From My Life – “Pornos for Pete”

There they were. A folder full of them. From Barry Bonds to Mark McGuire. A few Don Mattinglys and a couple Pete Roses. Call it what you want. Gifts. Bribes. Lubrication. All I had to do was insert the tape, press play and they’d be mine. I guess at some point we all find our dad’s “stash.” Unfortunately for me, so did the rest of my friends. Peer pressure can be a motherfucker. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to watch, I just didn’t want my dad to find out. What if I forgot to put the tape back on the shelf exactly as it was before. Or what if I didn’t rewind it back to the same spot as when I pushed play. So now, the only thing that stood between me and a folder full of rookie cards was a little black button.
