Steven Slater, you’re my hero

How long before Steven Slater is on his own reality show? is the host of SNL? is in an ad?
A beer company really should jump on this. What two beers did Steven take with him?
Budlight of course! That is how I envision it. At least that is how I shot it (it was the only beer we could find in the office), to make the attached.
Keep your beers upright

Good typography you know how I feel.

I bumped into this great type treatment to Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good”, created for the MFA Design program at School of Visual Arts. Great song plus great type equals an enlightened mind. Enjoy.

Scorched Earth

The one thing that I’ve become certain of since arriving in Moscow is this: nothing of any weight (psychic or otherwise) that happens here will do so without an equally baffling 180-degree reaction. It’s as if the best & the worst of nature and humanity are in some bizarre eternal battle with each other inside the city. So it’s actually NOT ironic at all that I would have written last week’s post about the ‘beauty of humanity’ at the Afisha picnic, and now, exactly 1 week later, the entire city …

Joaquin.the.Rapper documentary

Joaquin Phoenix finally gives away what the hell he was doing trying to rap and looking like he was on lsd the whole time.
Almost 2 years after started being a weirdo he comes out with what everybody kinda knew already, a documentary directed by Casey Affleck. “I’m still here” comes out September 10th and still nobody knows what its about.
I don’t know about you, but I’m interested to know what all that HUGE marketing around him and his personal life will bring.

Hot children in the city

I saw a side of Moscow that I loved this weekend. After a few weeks filled with drunken racists, bumbling, thuggy policemen, outrageous prices, horrible air quality, record breaking heat, and crazy working hours, I had my most enjoyable experience in Moscow so far, Saturday at the Afisha picnic. Afisha is a local magazine that’s like Moscow’s version of ‘Time Out’ or a free weekly magazine. They do this huge ‘picnic’ every year, and supposedly it’s always a big deal. I went with a few friends from work, and apart …

Recommend books to your your stalkers

Amazon just had an incredible idea and now works integrated with Facebook, allowing you to recommend the products you like to your Facebook not-so-close-friends. It also gives you the list of who has a birthday coming up and it recommends gifts based on their profiles.
This is a really good execution of a fairly simple idea…Facebook and other social networks already had on the “interests” part of the profile your favorite books, music, movies etc. Amazon now takes it to the next level bringing it to life.

Musicology

For starters, let me just make clear that I like this song. However, as a writer I can’t help but cringe when I hear the chorus.
Dear Kris Allen, we can’t live “like” we’re dying. By definition, we are dying. Each day that passes is one less day of our life.
If I may, a more accurate title would be “Live like we’ll die tomorrow” or, to keep it more poetic, “Live cause we’re dying”.
Technicalities, technicalities. Lol.

The riddle inside the enigma.

I’ve just finished up my third full week here in Moscow, and I’ve already witnessed more insane shit in approximately 21 days here than in a year of living in Detroit. Just a few things I’ve seen so far include a shop underneath one Metro station where you can buy automatic weapons- I saw an AK-47, some Uzi’s, a mini rocket launcher (at least that’s what it looked like)… a cash-and-carry insurgent one-stop shop! They should do a radio spot: “Need to overthrow a country whose name ends in stan?….”
There’s …
