Be Nice
I wrote a limerick to start this post. It’s kinda amazing. Check it out:
There once was a writer from the city,
who was talented but acted quite shitty
he was so very cocky, no one wanted his copy.
What an ass. What a waste. What a pity.
Lesson: Don’t be a jerk to people unless you’re sure you’ll never need those bridges you’re burning. And even if you are sure, you never know what the future holds… some lowly hack right now may end up being an ECD at your dream agency and they may not hire you simply out of spite. This crappy poem I wrote (it just flowed off the dome, yo!) is based on a real person I know. Although he is quite talented, he is known as a “pariah” around town and many steer clear of him, lest they become guilty of douchebaggery by association.
Just be cool, ya know? Be nice to people. If a person needs a lot of help on the stuff they’re working on, you can be direct but still be tactful. Don’t be rude just because “it’s the industry standard” or whatever. Being gracious and humble goes a long way.
