The Netflix Gaff

Wading through my millions of unopened emails the other day, I noticed a “Change of Services” email from Netflix. I usually just delete those emails or let them fall to the second page and forget about them, but for some reason I opened it this time. I was startled and surprised to read the message it contained –prices were increasing by 60% starting in September. Lame.

The next day, I read an article about it on Reuters.com (“Netflix Price Raise Draws User Ire, Investor Glee”) and the Netflix spokesperson basically said …

Let’s talk about brand loyalty.

We all have at least a couple brands that we have some sort of an affinity for. Maybe even one or two that we love. And perhaps even one that we are obsessed with. Off the top of my head, for me, it’s Apple, Frosted Flakes, Right Guard, Puma, Arby’s and Pizza Hut.
Here’s a list of the top brands with the best loyalty.

And here’s some folks that have made that ultimate commitment to their brands. Getting them tattooed on their bodies.

Stella Artois “Up There”

Mother came out with this great idea for Stella to use the whole side of a building as a blank canvas like it was done when computers weren’t used for advertising…
I have appreciation for stuff made by hands, not that I am a crafty person, just because it takes a lot more time, patience and a whole lot of love to make something look this good!
This 13 minutes short-film shows the the work behind and the creation of this awesome piece that took 21 days to be done and also tells …

YES, JULISSA. THE NEW NIKE AD IS A STEAMING PILE OF SHIT

I was wondering if one of my AJS colleagues would beat me to the punch with a critique of Nike’s new Tiger Woods ad, and alas, Ms. Julissa did. I figured as much. it’s just TOO juicy a spot to NOT talk about, even though it doesn’t really deserve to be talked about because it sucks.
But WTF, I’m guilty, so let’s discuss. To start with, this ad is creepy as hell. The ultra-slow zoom in to Tiger’s face as the disconnected V/O of his dead father floats around. Even pop’s …

Kraft Cheddar Explosion

This past Sunday, at 7 a.m. Texas Stadium was imploded. THE Texas Stadium. Former home of the Dallas Cowboys. All sponsored by Kraft Mac ‘N Cheese. That’s right. Kraft held an essay contest for kids, with the winner getting to push the button to start the demolition. While the explosion didn’t look like cheddar, it was pretty cool. People lined up outside to catch a glimpse of it.
While the whole idea of Kraft sponsoring the implosion of Texas Stadium is a ridiculous but ultimately fun idea, I think they missed …

More ChatRoulette!

So continuing my coverage of ChatRoulette, I’ve been hearing about how several brands have been using our favorite random video chat service to do some fun advertising. BK did it. Travelocity did it. And now Dr. Pepper.
BK had The King jump on there and send people links for coupons on food. Travelocity just had a funny message and a link. And most recently, Dr. Pepper pulled an April Fools Day trick on people. They had a Dr. Pepper cheerleader do dance for people and pull a quick switch-a-roo to catch …

Budweiser World Cup Reality Show

During the World Cup, Budweiser wants to take one person from each of the participating countries to go live in the same house. It’ll be called The Bud House, the brands reality show that is supposed to show 32 people cheering for their countries inside a high-tech house in South Africa…
A few weeks ago, AdAge said that this would be like a Big Brother but the producers came back and said that it’s not supposed to be a elimination game. They want to show how would it be to put …

Logoramajama!

Make your brand sing or kill people. Logos are the essence of our modern culture and definitely one part of this job.  Whether it be a re- branding or not you will touch a logo you hate or love. BRAND BRAND BRAND!
Anyways, this little movie is pretty awesome I suggest watching it all the way through.

Forbes Article

Check this article from Susan Credle in Forbes.com. She is very clear in how a brand can touch and connect with different targets audiences “ At times, a brand can wear different clothing, but with an authentic story, it’s still the same brand.”
Also she gives her take on budgets cuts and finally talk about one of the cores of our industry, taking risks, which is something I belive we should always do in all aspect of life. Without risk their is no fun or how she said “Fear of failure means we don’t …

YOU HAVE AN AVERAGE GOLF GAME AND A SAD, FLACCID PENIS

I hate golf. I hate everything about it. The khakis, sweater vests & visors. The way the TV announcers always whisper dramatically, as if the future of the free world depends on whether or not some dude gets his birdie. The fact that the fate of nations and/or multinational conglomerates has probably been juggled on the green (numerous times) by rich, old, pasty WASPs. The fact that acres upon acres of beautiful, green fields that could have been public parks are private golf courses instead, open only to those with …
