As I was waiting for the bus and checking updates on Twitter and Facebook, I noticed almost everyone else at the bus were on some sort of smart phone, I’m guessing doing the same. I started to think, what the hell did we do before all of this?
Did people actually talk to people at the bus stop? How did they pass the time when they missed a bus? They didn’t have Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, and Instagram, email access or even multiple new sources to check. Did they strike up conversation? …

Remember back when the only way to talk with your friends when you weren’t with them was to call them on a landline phone? (I still find it weird that less than ten years ago, we still talked on phones with cords attached to the wall.) Granted, when I was a kid, most of my friends lived within walking/biking distance from my house, but it’s still amazing to think about how few communication options there were. On one hand, it’s nice that now I can easily keep up with …

Apparently Facebok wants agencies, PR firms and Media companies to stop wasting time in their site and instead start using their new website Facebook Studio. The website was launched today looking to engage with the creative people from all over the world. “Every day on Facebook, people connect not only with their friends, but also with the brands and businesses they care about. We wanted to recognize the ways that the marketing community is using Facebook to drive business results. So we created Facebook Studio, a place to celebrate the …

2011 has turned out to be one hell of a year, and it’s only March. Governments in the Middle East have been overthrown, The labor protests in Madison continue, and now the Japan Tsunami/impending nuclear winter crisis is upon us. For anyone more than a bit superstitious, it might seem like the Mayan 2012 ‘end of days’ prophecy is getting kicked off early.
What I find most interesting about last month’s Egypt protests is the fact that social media fueled the whole thing. It’s safe to say that the revolution wouldn’t …

This past week I saw this video somebody made during his vacation in Brazil on a friends Facebook profile. The video was really well shot and edited for just a vacation footage – So good it could easily be used as a Brazilian tourism ad. All shot with inexpensive tools, this video made its way into the interweb. People from all over the place started sharing and appreciating the work. (maybe Brazilian people for the most part – like me)

They say, do what you love and the money will follow. But as ad people, we have to know that it’s not that easy.
Some of us like to think, historically myself included, that having a strong book is good enough. But if Chad Ochocinco and Paris Hilton have taught us anything, it’s that we have to brand ourselves.
Heads of agencies are in charge of creating a culture where good work can flourish. And a big part of this is piecing together the right people. They are looking for you to …

What is social media good for but those narcissists that insist on letting everyone know how cool they are by checking in to absolutely everywhere on foursquare and letting everyone on FB know what they are doing? Marketing of course, and I don’t mean those stupid get skinny quick ads on facebook.
Two weeks ago some friends and I met up for dinner and to see Lydia, the band.
We arrived at Lincoln Hall (One of Chicago’s finest venues) and all of us check into four square. I got some adverture badge, …

Amazon just had an incredible idea and now works integrated with Facebook, allowing you to recommend the products you like to your Facebook not-so-close-friends. It also gives you the list of who has a birthday coming up and it recommends gifts based on their profiles.
This is a really good execution of a fairly simple idea…Facebook and other social networks already had on the “interests” part of the profile your favorite books, music, movies etc. Amazon now takes it to the next level bringing it to life.

Everybody has been hearing about how annoying the vuvuzela noise is when you are watching any of the World Cup games. Even if you are not watching, I’m sure you have seen people talking about it on Twitter, Facebook or on the street. People tried to ban it from the WC but weren’t very luck, that giant bee hive noise will keep on annoying everybody. Sites like spitorswallow.co.za/blowme.php and iPhone apps promise to get your co-workers and anybody you know, out of their minds. Talking about that, guys just created …
