The Distraction of Technology

I apologize in advance that this post may come off as a bit critical or nagging, but something needs to be said.
(Fictitious scenario based on years of actual events) The routine is quite familiar. This Art Director and I are assigned to come up with some amazing concepts for a difficult brand. No biggie – the task isn’t daunting because, after all, we’re brilliant! When its time to get to work, we find a quiet room in the agency or take a walk to the park if the weather’s not …

iPhones are cool, period, end of story.

I stumbled into this video by Cassius and their new song “I love you so”. Granted it’s not the most creative or fresh use of an iPhone, yet it’s still pretty.. well pretty. And you can download it for you phone and play with it yourself. Enjoy.

How did Android kicked iPhone’s ass

I’m not sure if I find this article interesting because I’m now working on 2 phone accounts, but somehow I found it a good read about the reasons why the Android just surpassed the iPhone.   I also had no idea about this, so if you are also out of it you should go ahead and click on the link.  (Click on the pick to go to the site)

There should be an app to make an app.

I recently went to a little lecture about iphone apps. While I’m still on the fence about the profitability of apps (me personally making a profit) I definitely am a firm believer that they are becoming part of the marketing mix. Our clients should have apps. They don’t have to make money from them but they will create happier customers because of them. (Client depending of course)  The guy who made the Hipstamatic app was there and spoke. Pretty cool stuff. But man how do you find someone to do …

The intersection of technology and magic

One of my favorite iPhone apps is ‘Oblique Strategies’. It contains the combined editions (1-5) of the deck of cards created by Brian Eno (music producer & original Roxy Music member) and Peter Schmidt. Although they were created with an emphasis on musical composition & production, they can be applied to any artistic endeavor. From an introduction to the 2001 version:
“These cards evolved from separate observations of the principles underlying what we were doing. Sometimes they were recognized in retrospect (intellect catching up with intuition), sometimes they were identified as …

Dictated but not read

My friends came over tonight and we decided to try out a “Dictation App” on my phone.
The following is an unedited transcription I emailed to myself.
Test_01:
“Fair in a few days were doing a test. I’m starting this out. It’s going to come back to me I am enunciating because I want this to at least represent somewhat what I am saying although I’m getting a little robotic with my voice but that’s probably because I don’t know what I’m doing”
What does “turning 30″ mean to you?
“Sam I’ll add is moving …

Germany Knows the Holidays

My inbox this week has been filled with all kinds of holiday e-cards. But Jung Von Matt blew me away this year. Really great idea – amazing execution and to top it off they taught me a little bit about Germany.  Frohe Weihnachten Jung Von Matt! Check out their card here and if you have an iphone download the application. By the way, my symbol was a rocket.

While at the Bar

After a few nights of getting a pathetic amount of sleep, the glorious new business pitch I was working on ended. And when a new business pitch ends, that simply means the next destination is – the bar of course. A friend and I were sipping one of those beers that has the slice of orange floating at the top, called something …moon… blue. Yes, Bluemoon. So we we’re sipping a Bluemoon and I turned to him in my slight delirium and said ” I wish I could hold my …
