Movies that will truly wrench your soul

I am sorry but I recently read that people are getting suicidal after seeing Avatar.
http://www.cnn.com/2010/SHOWBIZ/Movies/01/11/avatar.movie.blues/index.html
I personally saw the movie and thought it was visually stunning, the story was OK too. Heck I might have even daydreamed about my wife painted up in blue jumping off messed up looking dino-horse things. But it definitely didn’t make me want to throw myself off the Golden Gate Bridge.
Being an Avid movie watcher and connoisseur of the darker side of films, I present you a list of truly depressing movies that will make you …

Life in Times in Movies: A Decade of Flicks

How often do you recall the events in your life when you watch a movie on DVD, Hulu, Spike or medium outside of a theater? I’ll answer: rarely. But, the movie theater experience solidifies that date in time; like a bookmark in the timeline of your life.
When I was complicating my top ten movies of the decade, memories of the time and place came flooding back. I recalled whom I was with, what life crisis I was enmeshed in, what aspirations I had and where I was geographically. So rather …

60 Seconds is Plenty

This is proof that the only reason ads ever suck is laziness maybe on the client side or the creative side or somewhere in betweenS Not pointing a finger, just saying that a lot can be said in 60 seconds, if people let it be said/say it.

Graphic Designers Nightmares

I saw this short clips on a friends page and had to post it here. It’s so funny, and if you are constantly doing
freelance work for friends or friends of friends, sometimes that’s what you gotta go thru…

In the last decade, no director has carved out a niche for himself like Wes Anderson. With “Fantastic Mr. Fox,” Wes is showing that Bill Murray is rubbing off on him because he too is getting better with age. Whether this movie was animated or not is irrelevant. It is vintage Anderson. All the elements that made “Rushmore,” “Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou” and “The Royal Tennenbaums” classics are laden in “Fox.”
Here are some running Wes Anderson themes to look for in his new hit “Fantastic Mr. Fox”:

Is it product placement if it’s free?

The Disney/Pixar “Up” DVD+Blu-Ray will be officially released at Fenton’s Creamery – the same you saw on the movie.
The event takes place on November 10th at the ice cream place that appeared twice on the movie.
Disney won’t actually need to build the place, since Fenton’s already exists (in Oakland / California). It was built 114 years ago and it’s pretty famous around town.
Even though it looks like product placement, it is not. The director of the movie (Pete Docter) and the producer (Jonas Rivera) live in Oakland, and since they are always …

A single man

(Video Embedded)
As most of you probably know by now, I spend most of my procrastination time on Apple Trailers. I heard once, and firmly believe now, that the best part of the movie is the trailer. So, instead of losing 2 hours of my life watching crappy movies, I honor them with 2 minutes of it and move on.
The other day my AD found this one. It’s a film by Tom Ford, which makes it interesting already. The trailer doesn’t reveal much, but it stars Julianne Moore and Colin Firth …

Precious?

This movie looks amazing. This is the story of Precious, an abused overweight 16 year old (and I think she has a child too?) If you’re anything like me bring 3 boxes of Kleenex to the theater.
On a positive note, I just found out that the mother of the actress who plays the roll of Precious is no other than Alice Tan Ridley. If you live in NYC you’ve probably seen her singing in the Herald Square subway station. I gave her money once. She’s a great singer.
