Superbored

Yes, I watched the Superbowl, and of course I paid attention to the commercials. This year I was struck with a particular feeling that was hard to put my finger on, and it was a bit unsettling. I felt a tinge of sadness, as if I was looking at the world through a strange, dystopian lens. But sadness for what, I wonder. Am I changing, or is the ad world changing… is society at large changing? I think the answer is probably YES to all three.
The thing I noticed most …

Do you want even more stupidity, or EVEN more stupidity?

Anyone who reads this blog on a regular basis might notice that I haven’t posted an entry in a few months. There are many reasons for this- I’m not just lazy First, I’m no longer in Russia. BBDO Moscow was an amazing experience in many ways, but I sure am happy to have gotten the hell out. I feel like I amassed Decades worth of surrealistic life experience in 6 months, and just living the daily life of a Muscovite has toughened me up in every way imaginable. …

I just found out that Richard Castle has a NY Times Best Seller. If you don’t know why that’s awesome, allow me to dawn some hipster clothes and an aura of superiority so that I can enlighten you.

Know Thy Audience

I’m going to pick on India, but I don’t want you to just think I’m a racist and then miss how this applies to all clients – it just tends to be an especially big problem with travel advertising.

Not-so-New IKEA commecial.

Yes, by now this is probably old news. And I don’t even know if this commercial is new to begin with. But has anyone seen this IKEA commercial? I was sitting in my couch the other night, waiting for all the crappy ads to pass by, tuning out and thinking about food when this ad popped up and actually made me laugh. This doesn’t happen often, so I had to share. This is the only video of it I could find. Youtube isn’t as stocked as I thought.

Another Serving of Doritos

Everyone thinks they can do what we do for a living, like it’s easy being a creative. The new Doritos Crash the Super Bowl promotion is a perfect example. If you look through the entries, you’ll see most of them are unbelievably horrible. Granted there are a few good ones. You should check out Shawn’s spot (Editors Note: Click here to see Shawn’s Video). But the bulk of it is garbage. And after about five minutes of watching these spots, I’m pretty confident our jobs are safe.
To see what I’m …
